Pride & Prejudice
2025
This play explores themes of love, judgment, vanity, and social power. My lighting design for Byron Nelson High School’s production of Pride & Prejudice, by Kate Hamill, complements the elegant and sophisticated atmosphere of the play, while also highlighting the chaotic and genuine moments. My director chose to add a modern twist to the production because we feel the story is timeless, and even modern audiences can learn from the Bennet girls' story. For me, this means brighter colors and moving parts, such as our spinning chandelier. The chandelier is designed to emulate a disco ball, adding more character to dancing scenes. My design includes a wide variety of looks to emphasize the duality of all the characters in the show and contrast how the characters want to be viewed by others and how they act when no one is watching.
